Todavía muy activos (su último álbum -nº 2 en el Reino Unido, nº 7 en Alemania- se publicó en 2023), Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), fundado por Andy McCluskey y Paul Humphreys, surgió en Liverpool a finales de los años 70 y está considerado, con razón, como uno de los conjuntos más originales de los llamados "synth pop" de la década siguiente.  
Cabe destacar que también es uno de los más exitosos, han disfrutado de al menos 20 singles exitosos en Europa y más allá, con ventas totales de alrededor de 40 millones de discos hasta la fecha.
Sus primeros años fueron muy influyentes y este lanzamiento, aclamado por muchos fans como la banda en el apogeo de sus poderes, proporciona una instantánea de OMD en su momento más vital, centrado e interesante; lleno de pop muy imaginativo, ligeramente a la izquierda, torpe pero logrado, capturado por la BBC en cuatro sesiones diferentes (una en 1979, dos en 1980 y otra en 1983).  
Y aunque es la primera vez que cualquiera de estas pistas se ha prensado en vinilo, también es la primera vez que todas las pistas de sus sesiones para John Peel se han publicado juntas. La versión original en CD de esta colección, publicada en 2000, omitió la segunda grabación de 'Bunker Soldiers', grabada como parte de la sesión de 1983. Masterizado (cuando era necesario) y cortado por Miles Showell en Abbey Road Studios, como observó Aaron Badgley de allmusic.com: "Incluso canciones conocidas como 'Enola Gay' cobran una nueva vida aquí. Más áspero, más crudo y mucho más experimental. Los fans también tienen la oportunidad de escuchar algunas canciones de su muy subestimado (LP) Dazzle Ships interpretadas en vivo. Esas pistas en particular son francamente espeluznantes,... pero brillante al fin y al cabo". Este lanzamiento se presentará como parte de la campaña War Child 2025

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), founded by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, emerged from Liverpool in the late ‘70s and are rightly regarded as one of the original synth-pop outfits of the following decade. Notably also one of the more successful, they have enjoyed at least 20 hit singles and over 40 million records sold to date. Their early years were highly influential and the Peel Sessions 1979-1983, acclaimed by many fans as the band at the height of their powers, provides a snapshot of OMD at arguably their most vital, focused and interesting; full of highly imaginative, slightly left-field, awkward but accomplished pop, captured by the BBC in four different sessions (one in 1979, two in 1980 and one in 1983). While this is the first time any of these tracks have been pressed on vinyl, it is also the first time that every single track from their sessions with John Peel have been issued together. The original CD version of this collection, issued in 2000, omitted the second recording of “Bunker Soldiers,” recorded as part of the 1983 session. Mastered (where necessary) and cut to lacquer by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, exclusively for Record Store Day 2025.
